It was a death that Dean would regret for the rest of his existence. Not that he hadn't died in other ways before, but this one was terrible. It was like a stolen death, like a coward's death. Dean was in bed when it happened, taken completely by surprise when a couple of angry hunters came looking for Sam. Sure, Sam had made a mistake or two. Sure, Sam had started the apocalypse. But that didn't mean he was worth killing, did it? And Dean, too, simply because he was in the next bed over? Dean would far prefer to have gone out fighting, gone out doing the right thing. But his heroic death was taken from him, stolen. In the few moments before the gunshot took his life, he felt cheated and embarrassed.
Dean was shot in the chest after being woken by a couple of angry hunters who wanted to kill Sam. At least he went out by his brother's side.
Abilities & Talents:
Dean has no extra-human powers. Those abilities he has have been honed over many years of training and reinforcement, and have generally speaking been brought about to keep himself alive, rather than from other means of study. He was comprehensively trained from early childhood by his father, and then through his own experiences he has learned to be a paranormal investigator and hunter of the supernatural. He is rather dangerous to his enemies and protective of his allies.
Because of being raised in the lifestyle, Dean has developed skills that have kept him alive for the greater part of his life. He's a survivor, and can find food and water in nearly any situation. He's a formidable opponent in hand-to-hand combat, with experience and expertise in using blades in fighting. Not only blades, though, Dean is well versed with ranged weapons as well. He's an excellent shot with most weapons, and is quite knowledgable about many types of firearms. One might even go so far as to call him an 'expert marksman.' His preference and highest skill would be with his Colt 1911 and his sawed-off shotgun.
Dean has picked up bits and pieces of "hunter chemistry" on the road. He knows the uses of common chemicals, and is capable of making explosives out of ordinary kitchen items. He's also picked up a thing or two about electronic devices, and can create new things by splicing wires and redirecting currents.
Through the years Dean has amassed extensive knowledge of supernatural creatures, and he uses that knowledge to track, hunt down and destroy or subdue said creatures. He is likely to know the strengths, weaknesses, appearance, feeding habits and hiding habits of what he's up against. His research skills aren't near his brother's, but he's talented at retaining such information.
Speaking of information, Dean has amassed incredible amounts of information about various government agencies and is a competent con artist. He is able to impersonate a member of the FBI, Home Land Security, CDC, police, fire personnel, even a priest. He knows how to read people, and knows how to con them.
Over his time as a hunter, Dean has also been forced into situations where he's had to escape sticky situations. He's abe to pick locks, escape from being tied by ropes, and disable or hack some electronic tracking devices or home security systems.
It's not one of his own talents, but Dean learned a banishing spell to fend off angels, and has had his ribs carved with runes that make him impossible for angels to track and locate.
Weaknesses:
Dean has a few weaknesses, though he does his best to cover them with bravado, and occasionally wit. One of his bigger weaknesses is a pretty face. Dean likes women very much, and is more likely to listen to a sob story if it comes from a good-looking woman than if it comes from anyone or anything else. He has more patience when he has something beautiful to look at while he's waiting. It's not easy for someone to pull one over on Dean, but it's more possible for him to be duped by a pretty girl than anyone else.
One might consider his penchant for saving lives to be a weakness. He would do almost anything to save lives, and puts himself and his brother in danger rather than sacrifice anyone. Dean doesn't believe in the idea that one life can or should be sacrificed to save the lives of many. He always wants to find another way, especially when that one life is the life of someone he cares about. (Though, later in his life, he would be stubborn about sacrificing himself to save the lives of many.)
Another weakness of Dean's might be his stubborn nature. Once he gets his mind set on something, Dean is almost impossible to convince otherwise. Even if it means diving head first into danger or leaping before he looks.
Dean's biggest weakness is his brother. Family in general, but Sam specifically. When Sam's in trouble, Dean's distraction level goes through the roof. He knows his brother inside and out (he thinks) and Sam has become the most important person in Dean's life.
